Saphenus goes Saphenability

SAPHENUS is working with its new SAPHENABILITY department on the implementation of sustainability indicators for the life sciences and medtech sector – derived from the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), compatible with the criteria of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) with a focus on the total resource consumption (material footprint) across the entire value chain.

To this end, we are developing a novel framework based on the knowledge gained from diverse sustainability experts like Fritz Hinterberger from club of rome to link these four approaches (GRI, ESG and SDGs in a footprinting perspective) with a rigorous metric that also takes into account corporate responsibility for impact outside the company’s own boundaries.

On the other hand, this framework makes it possible to tell ‘stories’ about how the company succeeds in achieving these goals, which can be communicated to a broad audience. As early as the 1990s, the sustainability pioneer Wolfgang Sachs called this ‘counting and telling’ – scientifically quantifying the results and reporting on them.

We can assume that the methodology of ‘environmental foot printing’, as described above, will soon be one of the business management must-haves in Europe. The success of the European ‘Green Deal’ will thus also determine the success or failure of individual companies and companies can already secure a head start with this monitoring.
