Ternopil Medical University and Saphenus

Following the rebuild Ukraine conference in Warsaw in June, we are delighted to be able to start the first supply batch in Ternopil. Under the direction of Professor Oksana Shevchuck, prosthetic fittings are regularly carried out here, primarily as a result of traumatic amputations from the armed conflicts of the last 2 1/2 years.

The aim is to get the phantom pain under control from the outset by providing peripheral sensory stimulation at an early stage and, at the same time, to achieve a significant increase in gait stability, sensory feedback makes it easier to cope with everyday situations such as climbing stairs or walking in the dark.

Aaron, head prosthetist at Saphenus, found it challenging to reach the university in Ternopil. The journey is the reward. After many hours and many hardships, he was pleased to have finally arrived at the Medical University in Ternopil. The hardships were worth it. The staff’s welcoming attitude and dedication to helping people get back on their feet were evident in every interaction. We can make a difference. We can help those who need it most. We can contribute to the fight against the many amputations that occur every day as a result of the war. The good news is that Aaron has a very powerful technology in his luggage. It is brand new and based on 2021 medical innovations. It puts phantom pain in its place by supplying peripheral sensitivity. This is the first visit to a promising and hopefully long-lasting collaboration.
