Prosthetic fittings in Ukraine – thanks to the Firuza Foundation

Our aid projects in Tunisia and future supplies in crisis regions are two sides of the same coin. It is crucial to be flexible in order to meet the needs of the situation. In other words, we must adapt to the circumstances. And we must become inventive out of necessity. Saphenus has spent almost four years in Tunisia on the „second leg“ project, teaching amputees to walk again in difficult conditions. Without the infrastructure of orthopaedic workshops, walking schools, rehabilitation facilities and high-quality prostheses such as microprocessor-controlled knee joints that are common in the western world. The main aim was to achieve „verticalisation“, so that amputees could participate in life again.

We are using this knowledge to help people in Ukraine now. The figures we hear from the war zones are horrific. It is said that every second casualty in the war is so badly injured that they have to be amputated.

As a young company, you have to make priorities clear. We are focusing on our core competence. We are reducing phantom limbs and improving gait through embodiment. We are touching lives and living up to the SDGs of the United Nations, enabling better well-being. We are proud to partner with the Firuza Foundation of the Philanthropist Nasib Hasanov, who shares our mission. Thanks to the Foundation’s generous donation, we will now be able to focus on the first supplies of our Suralis and Hyperion feedback systems in October 2024. We know we can only make a small contribution, but we are making one. We are proud and happy to be able to help every person who has lost a foot or leg to walk again and give them back a pain-free live.
