inclusion mascot

Sometimes people with limb loss would probably feel transported to the animal world. There is a special creature here. A very special creature, that possesses the characteristics of a paedomorphic salamander. The word „paedomorph“ contains this characteristic: they are animals with incredible regenerative properties. They are able to regenerate limbs and their own regulatory systems prevent pain from occurring when scars form, for example.

Now it quickly becomes clear why this could be an ideal scenario-animal for amputees. Regaining a limb, ideally without scarring, a constant process of growth.

In the human mindset, prostheses try to achieve this – partly in a linear way. At least they succeed, and complex walking processes can already be well compensated for by microprocessor-controlled knee joints, for example. However, it is still the human being who has to adapt to the prosthesis in a certain sense. The other way around would be better. A bionic adaptation of the prosthesis to the body.

After years of research, Saphenus has found a promising way to achieve this. The almost incorporation of the prosthesis into the body. Regular transmission of sensory information is based on precisely these bionic principles.

Reports from Users saying after fitted with sensory feedback systems: “I have to see if the prosthesis is still there” or “The prosthesis feels warm” What initially left the orthopaedic technicians at Saphenus feeling strange and disbelieving themselves was due to the fact that exactly these are the moments when this incorporation, this embodiment was created.

It was a bit like the feeling , that the foot was growing back. Just like our amphibian animal. It therefore made sense to design a mascot based on the axolotl. Many thanks for the inspiration Lara and the great graphic realization.
